"Dr. Rameshwar is a professor of medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at New Jersey Medical School (NJMS), Rutgers. She received a B.S. degree in medical microbiology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and a Ph.D. degree in biology from Rutgers University, New Jersey. Dr. Rameshwar began her research in stem cell and cancer biology beginning with her post-doctoral fellowship.
Dr. Rameshwar’s research interest is in stem cell biology. The lab is involved in improving a hierarchy of breast cancer cell subsets beginning with the cancer stem cells. Dr. Rameshwar also studies breast cancer dormancy in the bone marrow. In addition, Dr. Rameshwar also studies neural regulation of hematopoiesis, the immunology of adult human mesenchymal stem cells, and the clinical application of mesenchymal stem cells. Dr. Rameshwar has trained several doctoral students, including those along the physician scientist track, and junior faculty members.
Dr. Rameshwar has authored over 190 publications, reviews, editorials and book chapters. She has edited books and won numerous awards such as the Master Educator’s Award for teaching. "
